White kitchens are definitely the hot look for 2017. With their versatility, how can you go wrong? Every white kitchen looks beautiful when clean, but as we all know, our kitchens don’t always stay clean. With day to day living, messes happen. The fear of not keeping a kitchen white and sparkly could be the biggest reason why someone would sacrifice their dream white kitchen.
Truth is, the only way to keep your kitchen looking perfect, is to never use it. Unfortunately, we all need to eat. Over time, you’ll notice an accumulation of grease and yellowed cabinets if you do not take proper care.

How do we prevent this? The first step is to figure out why our beautiful white cabinets turn yellow. The main reasoning for yellowing cabinets is direct sunlight. UV is harsh, it can transform almost any material into something ugly. The best way to help combat this is installing blinds. Sheer blinds that still let a lot diffused light in are not only tasteful, but effective! Your kitchen doesn’t need to be a dungeon.
The second reason is using your kitchen, specifically your cook top. When you start cooking and your home is filled with delicious aromas. Those yummy smells are actually little grease and food particles floating around. If you don’t equip your kitchen with an overhead exhaust, all those little particles will gently rest upon your beautiful white cabinets.

Now, if you don’t wipe down every so often, this grease will build up and turn your cabinets yellow. When it is time to wipe down (Once a month should be fine if there are no major spills), more often than not, you don’t need to use heavy duty cleaners. We actually advice against the abrasive side of your sponge as it will scratch and dull the finish. (Unless you’re going for a rustic look, then have at it!)
All you really need is a soft washcloth, a little bit of time, and elbow grease. If there are large spills and splatters, add a mild dish soap to the water, and it’ll clean it right up!

If you stumbled upon this blog and don’t have a white kitchen, or don’t care for a white kitchen, these rules still apply! All of our kitchens are disgusting, some are just better at hiding it than others.
