Adding Color to the Kitchen

Remodeling a kitchen can be overwhelming and there are many options to upgrade, but one area that might be easily overlooked is backsplashes. This should not be overlooked for many reasons, some might even surprise you. The area between the stove/countertop is the most under-utilized area of a kitchen.

When deciding what to do with this space that many don’t think about, or settle for the easiest solution, careful thought is worth your time. This area can be the home of a wonderful backsplash that will attract the eye with both marvelous color and texture. In a small kitchen, this color can add an outstanding accent color without taking up too much wall space.

The main purpose of a backsplash is to save the sheet-rock from large spills and spatters from cooking. However, it can be constructed in just about any material and be used for many different purposes.

There is so much potential for this space. For example, used for storage, such as adding a wine rack or decorative towel rack. Or it can be an accent piece to transform the whole look of the kitchen while decorating and personalizing

Color in the Kitchen

Adding a splash of color to your kitchen can truly bring a kitchen into new life. There is a wide variety of choices that can be made around your kitchen cabinets so that an entire kitchen remodel isn’t necessary. When choosing a color accent for the kitchen, make sure to choose a color that stands out and contrasts against the rest of the kitchen, and use it throughout the kitchen with all accents.

One of the easiest ways to change your kitchen cabinets up is by replacing the knobs and handles on your cabinets. Ceramic hardware comes in a myriad of colors, designs, and shapes. The subtle change some updated knobs can bring to the kitchen could be exactly what it needs. Because it’s easy and cost-effective, the small details of switching out the knobs and handles are a go-to choice when looking for something new.

Cabinets with no doors or glass doors, throwing color into the back of the cabinet through painting or applying wallpaper can give just the contrast you need. Color on the back of the cabinets can add a uniqueness that makes the cabinets really stand out and be the main feature of the kitchen.

You can also paint a portion or all of the cabinets, making the cabinets themselves become the accent color, which may be the boldest choice you can make. When painting some of the cabinets instead of all of them, choose cabinets that are already visually different (kitchen island, tall pantry cabinets, glass cabinets, etc).
